What I’m Loving: Naked Cakes

This new trend is one that either brides love or hate, but it’s so different and unique that we just had to feature it! What is a naked cake? It’s simply a layered cake without icing!

We can see why some brides might not like to have a cake without frosting, but removing that thick layer of creamy goodness still has some advantages:

  • Your guest might actually like it! How many times have you had cake with an outrageous amount of icing and very little cake? No more waste here — the filling is a perfect complement to the spongy cake layers.
  • Great use of color! Whether you want to do different colored cake layers or use a variety of fillings, the array of shades in a naked cake is just lovely. Go for an ombre design or use colors reminiscent of your wedding palette.
  • It’s affordable! Without the ornate icing designs or added accents, a naked cake is an affordable alternative if you are on a budget. Not to mention, it looks perfect for a rustic or contemporary wedding.

Afraid a naked cake is too plain for your taste? Dress it up by adding fresh fruit between the layers, or even incorporate flowers between each tier.
